Local standout athlete from Richmond, Michigan, Evelyn Swantek decided to call SC4 home in the fall of 2019.

Swantek graduated from Richmond High School in 2018 where she played four years of softball as a catcher, collecting numerous awards and honors, including All-State Honorable Mention her senior year.

Her first college softball season was with Oakland Community College in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, but after a year away from the Blue Water Area, she decided to return home and play as a Skipper.

“I came here for the coaches and it was closer to home, and I knew I’d be getting to play with one of my best friends [Olivia Young],” Swantek said. “Their style of coaching was definitely what I needed and I knew Ron [Matthews] pretty well because he’d come to a lot of my Richmond games.

Swantek and Young were both about to play their second season of junior college softball when their season was cut short due to COVID-19. Fortunately, all spring athletes were granted an extra year of eligibility so they can finish their careers on a more positive note, which Swantek says she’s looking forward to.

“I know [SC4] going to be a good place to wrap up my softball career,” she said. “It’s just a great place to play for.”

Off the field, Swantek is earning many of her general education credits from SC4 and then plans to transfer to a four-year institution to finish out her academic career.

“I’m going into secondary education,” she said. “I want to teach English.”
