Brooklyn Taylor graduated from Henry Ford Academy in 2019 and less than a year later, she was commanding the floor as the Skippers’ point guard. Averaging 9.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, Taylor’s transition was a successful one.

“It wasn’t too hard at all. I’ve always been a point guard so I was conditioned for it,” Taylor said. “My teammates were also definitely very supportive.”

And with her freshman campaign completed, Taylor is already looking forward to the 2020-21 season.

“Every year I’ve been able to improve in a different area like in dribbling or shooting,” she said. “This year my offense wasn’t too bad, so next year I’m hoping to continue to improve on offense.”

Taylor has goals to continue her athletic career at a four-year institution, and maybe even the pros one day. She’s certainly got the drive to do it.

“I did cross country and track for a couple of years in high school. At first it was just to stay in shape and do something in the off season, but then I got kind of good at it,” she said. “Then I transferred to HFA for my senior year and they didn’t have a team. But I’d still go out and run hills to train.”

She credits her dad for helping her stay disciplined in her training. Although she has big goals in mind, for now, she’s focused on the season ahead of her and her school work

She graduated among the top of her class in high school, earning several awards such as the Technologists Award of Excellence, and continues to strive for academic success. Her ultimate goal is to pursue a career in dentistry, but after an interesting semester taking sociology and psychology, she’s keeping her options open to perhaps working as a psychologist.

“I was trying to go into pre-dentistry,” she said. “Ever since I was a little kid I always liked going to the dentist, and I recently got my braces on and I liked the work the orthodontist did. But I also liked sociology and psychology.”

She said she has enjoyed her time at SC4 so far and appreciates her professors, as well as the on-campus student housing and the staff that works there.

“I like the teachers because they make sure they communicate really well,” Taylor said. “I also like the scenery.”

One of Taylor’s favorite memories so far, she said, was a team trip to Escanaba, Michigan.

“It was after our game and we went back to the hotel to shower and change, and then there was a big room that they let us use,” she said. “It was really fun and we made a bunch TikToks. It was great team bonding.”
