2020-21 Skippers Men's Basketball Team Preview

Skippers Men's Basketball is looking to have a strong season. Going into his 30th year coaching the Skippers, Head Coach Dale Vos is working with a group made up largely of key returners who have put in the work and are ready to get back in the gym.

"We have a lot of veteran talent and that is always a great benefit," Coach Vos stated, "It will likely be even more important this year with the uncertainty and the sudden changes that COVID-19 has already caused and will likely continue to cause."

Leading the Skippers this winter are two returners who sat out last season. Omari Duncan and Christopher Ballard are back from the 2019 District 10 Champion Team.

Duncan was one of the 2 best returners in the league last year.  "After sitting out [the 2019-20 season] due to a knee injury, we expect him to be a first team all-league talent again. He is a very talented player who can score off dribble, shooting the 3, and in the post. Omari is also an unbelievable competitor," said Coach Vos.

Ballard was the best rebounder on the 2018-19 team. Coach Vos said, "We expect the same [from Chris] again. He is a very good scorer inside 18 feet and can be a rim protector on defense for us this season."

Following their lead are returners from 2019-20 team – Jackson Allen, Trevor Boers, Riley Bugg, Cameron Hudson, Kevin Ibula, and Emmanuel NDambiOther returning team members include Andrew Geiger who was injured early in the seasonas well as Ashton Nance and Andrew Salter who practiced with the team last season.

Riley Bugg is one of the best returners in the league holding several All-League honors last winter, including making the 5-man All-Freshman team.  Coach Vos says, "He shoots it as well as anyone in our league and has the size to cause many mismatches inside."

Another leading contributor on the return is Emmanuel NDambi who is good rebounder, can protect the rim on defense, and blocks shots. "On offense he is really good in the pick and roll," Coach Vos commented.

Newcomer this year is Caron Clayton, who is a triple threat and can score, run the point, and defend.
