Cross Country to Compete at Region XII and MCCAA Championships

XC Regional Meet
Cross Country Heads to Lansing for the NJCAA Region XII and MCCAA Championships

The NJCAA Region XII and MCCAA Championships are happening at Lansing Community College on Saturday, October 31. Our Skippers Cross Country teams are headed into the weekend hopeful for a chance to make it back to the NJCAA Cross Country National Championships held in Fort Dodge, Iowa this year. After taking the men's team and two individual women to the National Championship in 2019, Coach Craig Dickinson and his crew are looking for more in 2020.

"We are very excited to run at regionals this weekend," said Dickinson. He noted, "The women's team has been consistent all season and have had an incredible time interval from one to five. The men's team has been a little up and down, but if all five run well they have a chance to make it to nationals."

This year, the women's team has consistently placed high in the rankings. Currently they are ranked #5 in the national coaches' poll, and their finishes in each race have put them in the top 5 over-all. Several individuals on the women's team are pushing towards a chance to earn individual NJCAA Region XII honors and five could capture MCCAA honors if they run well.

Leading the men this year has been Drew Mayes, who will likely earn Region XII and MCCAA honors this weekend. "Drew has been consistent for us, but [qualifying for nationals] will take a whole team effort." Despite injuries, the team is optimistic heading into the weekend knowing their hard work could pay off with a ticket to Nationals.

Please note: no spectators will be allowed at this event.
