Women's Basketball 2020-21 Team Preview

Coach Chris Huss is looking for a great season this year, and a shot to compete in the NJCAA DII Women's Basketball National Championship hosted here at home.

The 2020-21 team will have a couple of crucial familiar faces leading the way: Janae Smith and Brookyln Taylor. Last season, Coach Huss described Smith as "the catalyst" - making things happen at both ends of the court. He said, "She brings speed to the game, always works hard and has a great attitude."

Taylor brings even more experience – leading the 2019-20 team in minutes played and averaging 10 points per game. Coach Huss said, "Brooklyn is a great shooter, has great speed, is a great ball handler and was our top defender." He is excited to have these two players leading the way.

Following their lead are newcomers Lily Connelly, Jenna Holzberger, Mia Janssen, Annaliese LaMontagne, and Morgan McConnell

Connelly is a great shooter and ball handler, and is great in the open court. She has great speed, and a great attitude. This fall, she competed on the Skippers Cross Country team and finished 23rd of 122 at the NJCAA DII Cross Country National Championship.

Holzberger is a great shooter and ball handle with a  great attitude. Coach Huss said, "Jenna works hard and is all over the court." She competed on the Skippers Cross Country team with Connelly this fall and finished 62nd of 122 at the NJCAA DII Cross Country National Championship.

Janssen and LaMontagne both come from St. Clair High School and are a good duo. Janssen is a great shooter, strong athlete, has a great mindset and is always working hard. LaMontagne compliments her as a great rebounder who is aggressive and tough around the basket, and is always working just as hard.

Rounding out the roster is McConnell who is a great shooter and scorer, strong ball handler and plays hard.

Coach Huss has a new assistant coach this winter, Teilor Hubbard, and they are looking to make great strides and compete hard with their close-knit team. Consistency will be key, but they are ready to get back to work and get in the gym.
