Sluggish Start leads to Skippers demise in 81-41 loss to Lakers

Coach Archer provides insight to his team during a timeout in Friday night's game vs Lakeland.

The SC4 basketball Lady Skippers basketball team hosted the Lakeland Lakers on Friday night and sluggish starts to the game and second half led to their demise as the Lakers won 81-41. The Skippers were the first ones on the scoreboard as guard Arlonna Twitty found center Dareonna Little for the game's opening points. From there the Lakers went on a 15-0 run with Little stopping the bleeding with her second score of the game. The end of the first quarter saw Lakeland in the lead by a score of 21-6.

After a long 2 by #20 Karmyn Lowry and a triple by #10 Taylor Carrow the Skippers cut the deficit to 14 just 3 minutes into the second quarter. That's where the deficit would remain for the second quarter, ranging between 14-18 points. At the half the score was Lakeland 36, Skippers 19.

Pacing all scorers in the first half was #24 Dareonna Little as she was a perfect 5-5 from the field and 2-2 from the charity stripe. Little chipped in 6 boards in her 16 minutes of play in the first half.

Lakeland went on a 11-4 run to start the second half and never looked back. The third quarter saw the Lakers maintain a 20-point lead throughout. The Lakers balanced attack proved to be too much for the Skippers on Friday night as they had five scorers in double digits. The final score ended up being 81-41.

Leading the Skippers on the night for rebounds were sophomores Christina Bohm and Dareonna Little who finished with 10 and 7. Freshman guard Arlonna Twitty provided some defense for the Skippers as she had two steals on the night to go with 2 rebounds and 2 assists. The leading scorer for the Skippers was Little who ended her night with 16 points on an efficient 6-7 from the field.

The Lady Skippers will return to their homecourt Saturday afternoon when they host Bryant and Stratton at 4 PM.
