Men's Basketball: The Skippers Are District Champs and National Tournament Bound

Flint, MI – The Skippers were on the campus of Mott Community College playing in the NJCAA Great Lakes District C championship game on Saturday (March 10). They squared off against the Lakeland Community College Lakers.

The game was back and forth early with neither team earning a solid edge, that was before the Skippers grew a 15-point lead with just over eight minutes to go in the first half. The Lakers then went on a run to cut the lead to 7. The Skippers took a 41-34 lead into halftime. Sc4 shot 62.5% from 3 in the first half. During the second half Sc4 was firing on all cylinders and really took control of the game. They led by 33 points at one time. When the final horn sounded the Skippers were NJCAA Great Lakes District C Champions by a final score of 91-66.

SC4 was paced by sophomore guard Isaiah Jones who scored 28 points with 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. Zaveon Little added in 25 more points and 8 rebounds. Tyler Hamilton earned a double-double with 20 points and 11 assists, he also had 3 takeaways. Daquan Coleman dumped in 11 more points.

For their outstanding playing in the tournament, Tyler Hamilton and Zaveon Little were named to the All-Tournament Team while Isaiah Jones was named the tournament MVP.

With this win the Skippers qualified for the NJCAA DII National Tournament in Danville Illinois! This will be their 4th trip in school history and first under head coach Richard Field.

They will await the selection show on Tuesday, March 12 to see their matchup and game schedule for the tournament.
