
University Center, MI - The men's and women's track teams kicked off their inaugural indoor track season at the SVSU Classic hosted by Saginaw Valley State University. The event took place at SVSU's 300m indoor track at the Ryder Center. The Skipper's started the season off on the right foot, posting several school records. Previous school records were set by the school's preceding club team.
Vinny Schweihofer raced in the men's mile, just missing the school record by .32 seconds in 4:40.8. Schweihofer's time allowed him to finish 9th in his heat and 23rd overall. Schweihofer later joined teammate Trent Glass in the men's 800m. After an impressive mile race, Schweihofer managed a 2:08.47, good enough for 11th in his heat and 16th overall. Glass opened his indoor season crushing the school record by 14 seconds, in a time of 2:04.61. Glass' time earned him 10th in his heat and 13th overall. Closing out the night for the Skippers, Acer Campbell and Dylan Schumann competed in the men's 3,000m. Campbell broke the school record by 20 seconds in a time of 9:04.45, taking 11th in his heat and 11th place overall. Schumann ran strong, finishing in a time of 9:48.15, taking 11th in his heat and 28th overall. Schumann's time ranks him as the #8 Skipper in this event.
Both the men's and women's teams travel to Hillsdale next week, Saturday, January 25th for an early NJCAA Region XII Championship.
