Softball: The Skippers Split With the Ocelots

Port Huron, MI - The Skippers hosted conference foe Schoolcraft college for a double header on Friday night (March 29).

SC4 jumped out to an early lead in game one, scoring 4 in the first innings and following that up with 1 in the second and third. Th next three innings were all Schoolcraft, they scored 8 runs to take an 8-6 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Skippers would explode for 6 runs to take a 12-8 lead and held the Ocelots in the seventh to get the win!

The offense was led by Alexis Perrin who hit a lead off home run to start the game and finished with 2 hits, 2 runs, and an RBI. Natalie Sauer also hit one out of the park and added 2 runs and 2 RBIs to the effort. Isabella Pesina had a 3-4 game with 3 RBIs. Sarah Fantin, MaKynna Saltzman, Natalie Douglas, and Avery Pegg also knocked a run in each.

Kaylie Rickert got the start and picked up her 2nd win of the season. She went 6.1 innings allowing 3 runs on 10 hits, 1 walk, while striking out 7. Brandi Bassett came in for 0.2 innings in the middle of Rickert's day, giving up 5 runs on 6 hits and a walk before Kaylie took over and finished out the game.

Game two was all Schoolcraft. They started the scoring off with 9 runs through the first three innings largely due to the amount of walks the Skipper's pitching staff gave up. The Ocelots would score 2 more in the fifth inning and close out SC4 in the bottom half of the inning to win the game 14-0 in 5 innings.

The Skippers offense didn't provide much thunder in game two of the double header but MaKynna Saltzman collected 2 hits in 2 at bats and Sarah Fantin added in another.

On the rubber, Carley Kalbfleisch started and picked up her first loss of the season. She went just 1.1 innings allowing 5 earned runs on just 1 hit but 5 walks. She also struck one batter out. MaKynna Saltzman pitched 3.2 innings in relief an gave up 8 runs, 6 of them earned, with 8 hits, 6 walks but struck out 3.

It's another split for SC4 during this up and down season. They move to 9-11 on the season and 4-2 in the conference. They extending their win streak to 4 games before losing game 2.

The Skippers next game is tomorrow at 1:00 PM when they host Macomb Community College for a conference double header.
