Softball: Big Conference Sweep for the Skippers

Port Huron, MI - The Skippers hosted Henry Ford College for an MCCAA Eastern Conference double header.

SC4 jumped on the Hawks early in game one and didn't let up. They scored in every inning after the first, including a 7 run third inning to break the game open. The final score was 12-4 in five innings. Natalie Douglas had a big day going 2 for 3 with a double and scoring 3 runs, she also batted in a run. Natalie Sauer collected 3 hits, including a double, 3 runs, and an RBI in her 3 at bats. Brandi Bassett and Avery Pegg also had 2 for 3 days. Bassett also scored a run and collected and RBI while Pegg scored a run and knocked in 2 runs.

MaKynna Saltzman led to the Skipper's attack going 3 for 3 with 23 runs. 2 RBIs, a walk and a home run. Brandi Bassett turned in a 2-3 day which included a home run, a double, and 5 RBIs. Sarah Fantin added in 2 hits and 2 runs, and Isabella Pesina added a double and an RBI. Isabella Pesina hit a triple, scored 2 runs and hit in 2 more.

Starting in the circle for the Skippers was Kaylie Rickert who earned the win.  She went all 5 innings allowing 4 runs, just 3 earned, on 6 hits, 1 walk, and an impressive 5 strikeouts.

Game two was a little bit closer. Henry Ford actually got the scoring started with a 1 run second inning then added on in the top of the third. SC4 would get one back in the bottom of that inning then take a 3-2 lead scoring 2 more in the fourth. The Hawks would answer with two more of their own and another lead change, but that would be the end of their offense. The Skippers pitching shut them down and the offense pushed 3 runs across in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 6-4 in seven innings. Natalie Douglas continued her hot day going 2 for 3 with 2 runs, and RBI and a home run! Kalei Pegg also hit a home run, her first as a Skipper. Isabella Pesina secured a 2 for 3 game scoring a run and knocking in 3 more. Alexis Perrin collected 2 hits in her 4 at bats.

On the rubber for the Skippers was MaKynna Saltzman. She picked up the win going 5 innings allowing just 2 earned runs with 9 hits, 2 walks, and 1 strikeout. Brandi Bassett came in and pitched 2 perfect innings and collecting the save.

This sweep moved the Skippers to 11-12 on the season and 6-3 in the conference.

They will host Oakland Community College tomorrow (Apr. 6) at Marysville City Park. This is a double header with game 1 starting at 1:00 PM.
