Softball: Softball Drops Two at Mott

Port Huron, MI – SC4 went on the road to play a double head at Mott Community College. This was the Skipper's third double header in as many days.

Game one was a big-time pitcher's duel. Both teams were tied at 0 up until the bottom of the sixth inning when Mott snuck 2 runs across. The Skippers were unable to answer and lost the game 2-0.

It was a slow day offensively for SC4, they managed just 3 hits. Brandi Bassett did everything she could to help her own cause. She collected two hits in her 3 at bats. Natalie Douglas was responsible for the other SC4 hit and she also reached via a walk. Avery Pegg also worked 2 walks.

Brandi Bassett was the starting pitcher for the Skippers and she pitched a gem despite the loss. She went all 6 innings allowing just 2 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks.

Game two featured some more offense. SC4 flew out of the gates, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. After that the bats went dormant until Mott broke through scored 5 runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. SC4 was able to get 2 od those back in the top of the fifth but would ultimately fall to the Bears 10-4.

Sarah Fantin ut up a 3 for 4 effort at the plate including 2 RBIs and a run. Carley Kalbfleisch hit a double and scored a run. Alexis Perrin and Isabella Pesina scored the other 2 SC4 runs.

MaKynna Saltzman got the start for the Skippers. She went 4 innings and gave up 5 runs, 3 of them earned, on 5 hits, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. Kaylie Rickert relieved Saltzman and threw an innings allowing 5 runs on 5 hits and a walk. Carley Kalbfleisch finished the game with a perfect sixth inning including a strikeout.

After these games the Skippers fell to 12-15 and 7-6 in conference play.

Their next game will be a non-conference double header at Madonna University on Tuesday, April 9. First pitch will be at 3:00 PM.
