Softball: Sweep Drops SC4 Into 4th Place in the Confernence

Northville, MI – SC4 was back in conference play and on the road at Schoolcraft College on Monday (Apr. 15) after a weather postponement.

The Ocelots had their offence humming in game one, scoring in every inning including 8 runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Skippers managed just 1 run in the top of the fifth inning. They ended up losing 15-1 in 5 innings.

Their offense managed just 4 hits, all by different people. Natalie Sauer hit a double and scored the only run for SC4, Isabella Pesina was responsible for that RBI with a sacrifice fly. MaKynna Saltzman, Natalie Douglas, and Ashley Bassett all recorded a hit.

Kaylie Rickert started and didn't have much on the mound. She went 3.2 innings and allowed 8 runs on 9 hits and a walk. She struck out one Ocelot hitter. Carley Kalbfleisch completed the last .1 of the game but before she did, she allowed 7 more runs, 4 earned, on 3 hits and 4 walks.

The Skippers didn't fare much better in game two. Schoolcraft Jumped out to an early 2 run lead in the bottom of the first inning. SC4 replied with two more of their own before giving up a 4 spot in the bottom of the second. The Ocelots added another in the third. SC4 got 2 runs back in the sixth and had their eyes on a comeback before giving them right back in the bottom half off the inning and killing any momentum they might have had. They lost game 2 9-4.

Kalei Pegg led the offense with 2 hits and 2 runs while Carley Kalbfleisch had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Both MaKynna Saltzman and Natalie Douglas turned in 3 for 4 days and Saltzman added in an RBI.  Alexis Perrin put together a 2 hit and 1 run performance.

Sophomore pitcher Brandi Bassett started for the Skippers. She went the distance allowing 7 earned runs on 13 hits, 2 walks and tallied 3 strikeouts.

The Skippers now find themselves at 12-19 on the season with a 7-8 conference record witch slots them in a 4th place.

They will be back in action on Friday (Apr. 19) when they travel to Macomb Community College for a 3:00 PM double header.
