Softball: The Skippers fall in a home run fest to Macomb

Marysville, MI – The Skippers hosted Macomb Community College for a single 7 inning game on Monday, April 22. The game was a makeup from the second half of a double header that was rained out.

The first three innings were quiet and the score was evened at 0 at the start of the fourth. That's when Macomb opened the floodgates. They scored 4 runs with one swing of the bat with a grand slam. SC4 was able to get 3 runs back on a MaKynna Saltzman homerun. The Skippers added 2 runs including the go ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning on some clutch hitting with 2 outs by Natalie Sauer and Alexis Perrin. Unfortunately, that lead didn't last long. The Monarchs countered with 4 in the top of the seventh and shut SC4 down in the bottom of the seventh to walk away with an 8-5 win.

MaKynna Saltzman turned in a 1 for 3 day with a run, 3 RBIs, and a home run. Natalie Sauer added in a hit including a triple, a run, and an RBI to tie the game with 2 outs in the sixth inning. Alexis Perrin went 1 for 3 including the go-ahead RBI in the sixth inning. Brandi Bassett and Avery Pegg each scored a run.

Kaylie Rickert started for SC4 and threw 6.1 innings. She game up 7 earned runs on 11 hits and struck out 3. MaKynna Saltzman finished off the game going 0.2 innings allowing just 1 hit and a strikeout.

The Skippers now find themselves at 13-25 on the season with an 8-14 conference record witch slots them in a 4th place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.

They will be back in action on Friday (Apr. 26) when they travel to Oakland Community College for a 3:00 PM double header. Sophomore day will be on Saturday, April 27 when the Skippers host Schoolcraft College. Game 1 will start at 12:00 PM.
