
Warren, MI – SC4 took on the Macomb Community College Monarchs in a road double header on Friday (Apr. 19). The games were schedule to start at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
Macomb jumped out to an early lead in game one, scoring 2 in the first and following that up with 1 in the second and third inning as well. The Skipper offence stayed quiet and the Monarchs added 4 more in the fifth for good measure. They ended up winning 8-0 in 5 innings.
The SC4 offense struggled, tallying just 6 total hits in game one including a double from Isabella Pesina.
Brandi Bassett got the start on the rubber for the Skippers. She went all 4.2 innings allowing 10 hits, 8 runs, 1 walk, with 4 strikeouts.
Game 2 featured some more offense from both teams. Again, Macomb started hot, scoring in the first 4 innings including 7 in the third inning. During that time SC4 was able to add 4 runs, 2 in the second and 2 in the fourth. After the Monarchs struck for 4 runs in the fourth and shut out the Skippers in the top of the fifth, the game was called due to the run rule. The Monarchs won 14-4 in 5 innings.
Despite the loss Carley Kalbfleisch turned in a nice game going 2 for 2 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs including a home run. Brandi Bassett also notched a 2 hit day, going 2 for 2 with 2 runs and a double. Sarah Fantin also added in a double.
MaKynna Saltzman started the game and went just 2.2 innings. She allowed 8 earned runs on 11 hits, 3 walks with a strikeout. Kaylie Rickert relieved her and finished off the last 1.1 innings. She allowed 3 earned runs on 4 hits 1 walk while striking out 2.
The Skippers slide to a 12-21 record and a 7-10 record in the conference.
They will be back at it tomorrow (Apr. 20) wen they travel to Henry Ford College for a double header starting at 1:00 PM.
