Skippers run at University of Louisville

Louisville, KY - The Women's Skippers cross country team competed over the weekend in Louisville, Kentucky, at the Live in the Lou Cross Country Classic hosted by University of Louisville. The women did not accomplish what they set out to do but fought through the heat and tough competition to post respectable times.

Freshman Lily Lemanski led the Skippers finishing 50th out of 205 runners. She continuously moved up in place throughout the race, finishing in 21:03. Jenna Denver, who was fighting off some illness managed a finishing time of 22:08 and placed 91st. Laela Bhatti ran only seconds off her season best, with a time of 22:15, good enough for 97th place. Olivia Crawford just missed a top 100 finish by 17 seconds, placing 114th in 22:36.

Jenna's Take:

"The team did really well competing against such a large competition. We all stayed consistent with our times and raced with grit. I personally like racing with such a large pack as I feel as though it helps me push my pace. Moving forward to our next meet and regionals, I believeall of us as a team will make huge improvements and cut some time. We all work hard and encourage one another. I'm excited to see our hard work and determination pay off."

The Skippers next competition is Saturday, October 12 at the Jayhawk Invitational hosted by Muskegon Community College.
