Garnett Kohler was a fierce competitor and tough guard from Brown City High School. The 2000 graduate was a 3-sport athlete in high school and the winner of the Times Herald award for best male athlete in the entire Blue Water Area following his senior year.

“Garnett brought a great competitive spirit every time he stepped on the court and as a leader, he was able to pass that on to his teammates. He still does that today as a coach.” Said head coach, Dale Vos. “He always saw the game like a coach and that helped everyone around him be better.”

Garnett says the opportunity to stay and play close to home for the Skippers was a big draw for him, allowing him to make lifelong friendships, connections, and memories. He recalled his favorite memories being the team trips to California and Florida. Kohler is thankful for coach Vos and the rest of the coaching staff mentioning, “It was a pleasure playing for Coach Vos and Coach Sharrow, as they were both huge influences on me as a player and a person.”

Following his time at SC4, Kohler transferred to play at Elmhurst College in Chicago. After a knee injury at the end of his junior year he decided to hang ‘em up and transferred to Saginaw Valley State University to finish his bachelor’s degree.

Garnett is married to Sara (Staskiewicz) and they have 3 kids; Jackson, Landon, and Ayla. He has coached and taught at several schools around the area including Brown City, Peck, and Yale where he’s currently an administrator and the head coach of the varsity boy's basketball team.
