Troy Schneider didn’t have plans of playing basketball for the Skippers. After high school graduation he attended Central Michigan University to play football. After his pursuit of a college football career ended, he found his home at SC4.

As a basketball player, Schneider knew what it took to win and wasn’t afraid to do any of those little things. He was an outstanding talent in the Blue Water Area who dominated teams with his athleticism and high basketball IQ.

The Port Huron Northern graduate joined a Skippers basketball team built of local talent when he arrived at SC4, which is one of the things he enjoyed most about the opportunity. Schneider shared how much he loved “playing with a team made up entirely of local players. Guys I played against before or heard of in the past. Then having the opportunity to play with them was pretty cool.

“Troy was as tough a competitor as I ever coached. It did not matter if it was practice or a game – Troy was there to win,” said head coach Dale Vos.

“One personal thing that stands out was the amount of charges on defense I took. I asked coach Vos jokingly if there are records kept for a season on that stat. He just chuckled.” Schneider added, “I really enjoyed playing for Coach Vos. He was straight forward and didn’t show any favoritism towards players. Coach Cliff Thomason was also well liked and a good coach.”

After his time at SC4, Schneider transferred to Eastern Michigan University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education. He currently teaches in Capac and has coached basketball and football at varying levels for most of his career. Troy has three kids.
