Baseball: SC4 Drops 2 games at Edison St.

Piqua, OH - The Skippers started their Spring Break trip at Edison State for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 2.

In game 1 the Chargers opened the scoring by putting up 8 runs in the second inning and continued to draw blood until the Skippers could mount an attack. The Skippers opened their scoring with an RBI from Carlo Corona and Deaven McWain scoring the run. This momentum was continued when Kaden Kovach scored off of a single by Hunter Filber. Ultimately this was where the Skipper's push ended and they fell to the Chargers 14-2. 

On the mound for the Skippers was starting pitcher Jake Goebel who threw 1.2 innings allowing 5 runs and striking out 3 batters. Oliver Lewis was the next pitcher to step on the mound and he threw 1.1 innings walking 7 batters and allowing 4 runs. Finally, Jordan Gallo closed the game for the Skippers, throwing the final inning and facing 10 batters.

In Game 2 the Chargers picked up where they left off, scoring 6 runs in the first inning before tacking on an additional run in the 2nd. The Skippers mounted an offensive attack, putting up 3 runs in the next two innings but unfortunately, the Chargers hung another 4 to end the game. Gavin Tencza had an RBI double for the Skippers, scoring Carrinton Thomas. Thomas and Jonah Miranda were aggressive on the basepaths creating scoring opportunities. Logan Berner had the other RBI for the Skippers knocking in teammate Porter Kays. The Skippers fell to the Chargers with a final score of 11-3 in 6 innings.

The starting pitcher for the Skippers was Trevor Capoferi. He pitched one inning allowing 5 hits and 6 runs. Jeff Preston stepped up next to pitch the final 4 innings allowing 6 hits, 5 runs, walking 4 batters, and striking out 6.

The Skippers will play another doubleheader against the Edison State Chargers tomorrow ( March 3) before making the trip to Myrtle Beach, SC.
