Baseball: SC4 Picks Up Their First Win of the Season

Piqua, OH - The Skippers continued their trip with another doubleheader versus the Edison State Chargers on Sunday, March 3rd.

The Skippers drew first blood in game 1 by putting up 3 runs in the first inning before the Chargers retaliated in the second. Both teams alternated scoring a run before the Skippers were able to hold on to their lead winning their first game of the 2024 season, and the first win of new head coach Rich Robinson's career, 5 to 4. SC4 third baseman Spencer McMahan had a great eye at the plate, being walked 3 times and scoring all 3 times. Porter Kays had 3 RBIs for the Skippers, Deaven McWain and Carlo Corona both had one.

On the mound for the Skippers was Anthony Buric getting the win while allowing 3 runs, 4 hits, and striking out 3 batters. Dylan Ledford came in to face the last 5 batters during the final inning allowing 1 hit, 1 run, and striking out 2 batters.

Game 2 was all Chargers. They scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. The Skippers would get one back in the top of the second before surrendering 5 more to Edison St. Ultimatel;y the game would end in a 13-3 loss for SC4. Carrinton Thomas, Jonah Miranda, and Carlo Corona scored the Skippers 3 runs while Hunter Filber, Gavin Tencza, and Kaden Kovach were responsible for driving them home. 

Zach Douglas got the start on the bump for SC4. He went just 2 innings giving up 8 runs on 5 hits, 4 walks, and 1 strikeout. Louis Frontero relieved him, pitching 2 innings and allowing 3 runs on just 3 hits. He also walked 3 and struckout 2. Kyle Osenkowski finished off the game going .1 innings. He didn't allow a hit but walked 2 men who both came around to score.

SC4 will now finish the journey to Myrtle Beach, SC. Their next game is against Penn State Shenago tomorrow, March 5.
