Baseball: SC4 Splits with Penn State Shenango

Myrtle Beach, SC - Tuesday, March 5th the Skippers playing a double header against Penn State Shenago down in South Carolina. 

The Skippers opened the scoring going back in forth with the Lions scoring a run each. In the 3rd inning, Penn State started to take off, scoring 4 runs and repeating that effort in the 4th inning. The 7th was the Skipper's last chance to pull it back and they scored 3 runs but weren't able to fmake a full comeback, ultimately losing 11-7. Five Skippers hit doubles including Gavin Tencza, Joseph Parinello III, Spencer McMahan, Porter Kays, and Logan Berner. On the basepaths, Carrinton Thomas was aggressive stealing 3 bases for the Skips.

The starting pitcher for the Skippers was Deaven McWain who pitched 3 innings and allowed 5 hits, 5 runs, and 5 strikeouts. The game was closed out by Kyle Osenkowski who allowed 6 runs and 7 hits and threw 3 strikeouts.

Game 2 of the double header faired a little better for SC4. The game started out bleak for the Skips allowing 4 runs in the top of the first inning. The team bounced back and scored 6 runs of their own in the 4th inning. After a couple of back and forth innings SC4 found themselves tied in the bottom of the 7th. With the game on the line, the Skippers walked it off scoring the winning run in the bottom of the 7th. Porter Kays had a day going 2 for 3 with a double and scoring 2 of the Skipper's 8 runs. The basepaths were hot again with three Skippers stealing bases including Hunter Filber, Carrinton Thomas, and Kaden Kovach.

The starting pitcher for the Skippers was Grant Bombe who threw for 5 innings and allowed 7 runs with 9 hits. Ryan Kloss got the win pitching the last 2 innings walking 2 batters and striking out 4.

The Skippers will play Penn State Beaver and Westminster College (PA) JV on Wednesday, March 6th.
