Baseball: Tough Conference Start for the Skippers

Detroit, MI - After a weather cancellation, the Skippers played their first game back in Michigan. They traveled to the Corner Ballpark to take on Henry Ford College in a 9-inning conference contest.

The Skippers scored 2 runs in the top of the first to open the scoring but the Hawks answered with 11 in the bottom half of the inning. Both teams continued to put up runs but the Skippers were never able to claw their way back from the early deficit, losing the game 16-7. Hunter Filber had a day going 3 for 4 with a walk, an RBI, and scoring 2 runs. Gavin Tencza got a hit in all 4 at-bats and had 2 RBIs and 1 run scored.

Starting on the mound for the Skippers was Anthony Buric who pitched just 2/3 of an inning and allowing 8 runs, 7 hits, and striking out 2 batters. Grant Bombe came in to finish the inning and go 3 more, allowing 8 runs, 6 hits, and 5 strikeouts. Closing the game out was Oliver Lewis who pitched 2 innings allowing only 1 hit and 2 walks.

The Skippers next game is a nine-inning game at Jackson College on Thursday, March 19th.
