Baseball: The Skippers Get Swept by Henry Ford

Port Huron, MI – The Skippers hosted the Henry Ford College Hawks for a double header on Saturday (Apr. 6).

Game one started off slow with neither team able to scratch across a run for the first 3 innings. That changed when Henry Ford scored 3 in the stop of the fourth. They followed that up with 3 more in the top of the sixth. SC4 tried to stop the bleeding with one in the bottom half but the Hawks hung 10 more runs in the top of the seventh to essentially put the game out of reach. The final was 16-1.

Joseph Parinello turned in a nice day despite the team's offensive struggles. He went 2 for 2 with the lone RBI and a walk. Carrinton Thomas earned the Skippers other base hit and came around to score a run as well.

On the mound for SC4 was Dylan Ledford who went 4 innings allowing 3 runs on5 hits, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts. In relief Anthony Buric threw 2 innings allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits and a walk while striking out 4. Trevor Capoferi finished off the last inning of the game by allowing 10 runs, although just one was earned, and 6 hits.

Game two didn't go much better for the Skippers. Henry Ford got the scoring going with 3 runs in the second inning and then added 4 more in the fourth and 2 more in the fifth to finish it off. SC4 couldn't mount any kind of an offensive attack and lost 9-0.

The Skippers recorded 5 hits for the game and Gavin Tencza had 2 of them, going 2 for 3 on the day. Logan Berner, Carlo Corona, and Joseph Parinello were responsible for the other 3.

Jake Goebel got the call for SC4 and threw 4 innings allowing 5 earned runs on 5 hits, 5 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Deaven McWain pitched the last 3 innings allowing 2 runs on 1 hit and 3 walks while striking out 1.

This sweep will drop the Skippers to 3-13 for the season and 0-6 withing the conference.

They will travel to Henry Ford to play a double header Sunday (Apr. 7) at the Corner Ball Park in Detroit. Game one will start at 1:00 PM with game two to follow.
