Baseball: Two Tough Games for the Skippers

Detroit, MI – SC4 traveled to the Corner Ballpark in Detroit for a double header against the Henry Ford College Hawks on Sunday (Apr. 7). The games were a makeup from Thursday afternoon.

Henry Ford jumped on the Skippers early, scoring 4 in the first then 4 more in the third before they could answer. The Skippers got one back in the fourth but that's all they would score. The final was 8-1

Porter Kays went 1 for 3 and scored the lone Skippers run while Joseph Parinello III also turned in a 1 for 3 day with an RBI.

Oliver Lewis made the start on the mound for SC4 but only went 1 inning. His final line was 3 earned runs, 4 hits, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts. Grant Bombe relieved Lewis and went 6 innings allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.

Game two was a low scoring affair. Both teams scored a run in the first inning. SC4 added 1 in the top of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead before the Hawks tied it back up in the bottom of the fourth. The deciding run came in the sixth inning when Henry Ford scored to take a 3-2 lead that would end up being the final score.

Joseph Parinello III turned in a 2 for 3 day with a double. He was responsible for both of the SC4 runs. Hunter Filber went 1 for 4 and scored a run and Gavin Tencza was 1 for 3 and scored the other run, Logan Berner went 2 for 3.

The starting pitcher for game two was Kaden Kovach who threw 5 innings of 2 run baseball allowing 4 hits, 4 walks, and striking out 4. Jeff Preston picked up the loss when he gave up a late run in relief. He went 1 inning allowing 1 hit and 1 walk. The run he gave up was unearned.

The Skippers now find themselves at 3-15 overall and 0-8 in the conference.

They take a break from the MCCAA Eastern Conference and play a single 9-inning game against Concordia University. The game will be played in Ann Arbor and first pitch will be at 1:00 PM.
