Skippers hold off Delta behind 37 points from Thomas

Jakylen Thomas got the scoring started early for the Skippers on Tuesday night as he drilled a three-pointer after Delta turned it over on their opening possession. The Skippers started the game on an 8-0 run before Delta got on the board just under three minutes into the game. After a Kelvin Balfour triple the score was 14-3 Skippers. A few minutes later Thomas would hit his second three of the game to force a Delta timeout with 14:06 left in the first half.

The Pioneers would storm back after the timeout to bring it even at 20 apiece. Thomas would score the next five points for SC4 including his third triple of the night. The rest of the half was competitive with the Skippers lead getting back up to nine before the half.

Leading all scorers in the first half was Jakylen "JK" Thomas as he put on a show, scoring 25 points, and making 3-6 shots from long range. Kelvin Balfour added 12 points on an efficient 6-7 from the field and added five rebounds. Sophomore guard, Caron Clayton had 8 first half points in addition to three rebounds. Big man Will Weems contributed four first half rebounds.

The Skippers got off to a strong start in the second half as they built off their first half success. Their lead got as high as 23 points in the second half as they were up 75-52 with just under 14 minutes left. The Pioneers showed some life down the stretch as they pulled within 8 points with just over 4 minutes remaining. The Skippers were able to hold off and pull out the 103-91 win.

Leading the Skippers on the night was Jakylen Thomas as he finished with 37 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. The 5'8 guard from Marion, Indiana had 23 shot attempts from the field, making 13 of them and converting 4 of 8 shots from three-point land. Four other Skippers finished in double figures for scoring. Kelvin Balfour and Collin Albert each finished with 16 points on the night. Balfour led the Skippers on the boards with 8 to go with 2 assists. Caron Clayton and Will Weems provided 14 and 12 respectively. Weems also had 6 rebounds off the bench.

Your Skippers will be back in action next Wednesday, November 30th as they rematch Delta Community College on the road.
