Men's Cross Country Struggles at Skippers Invite

Skippers men's cross country prior to the skippers invite

SC4 hosted the Skippers Invitational Friday September 28 at Marysville Park in Marysville, MI. Tough course conditions posted undesirable times in the men's race. The men's placed 5th overall at the home meet. The mud and water forced two of the Skipper's top 5 runners to DNF (Did Not Finish) due to injuries that flared up during the race.

Glen Davis paced the men as the team's top runner, placing 3rd overall in a time of 27:19.5 Michael Paoletti finished as the team's second runner, crossing the finish line in 26th place with a time of 29:49.8. Mason Wildie stepped up as the third man after Lance Kowalski and Logan Cooper had to step off the course due to injuries that could not withstand the rough conditions. Wildie placed 42nd overall in 30:42.2. Matt LaFreniere and Devin Dudley earned points for the team today as the team's fourth and fifth runners. LaFreniere (30:57.5) placed 46th, while Dudley (35:13.3) placed 84th.  Joseph Edgemon (35:56.8) rounded out the team's finishers, placing 89th overall.

When asked about the tough course conditions and how he got through it, Paoletti responded, "The course was definitely the biggest challenge and it's safe to say it played an effect on everyone today, slowing the times down, but making the race competitive due to the conditions. Getting through the race, I really just thought about getting to the finish and thinking of moving on to the next race. I could tell a couple miles in that the team was having a hard day and so was I. Today was something to learn and build on."

The men take a break from racing next week and will lace up again October 14th for the Charger Invitational, hosted by Marian University's Ancilla College in Plymouth, IN.
