Five Skippers Softball Players Earn MCCAA Eastern Conference Awards

MCCAA Softball Awards: Sarah Fantin (First Team All-Eastern Conference, Eastern Conference All-Freshman Team), Meriah Mason (Eastern Conference Honorable Mention), Abigail Thibodeau (Eastern Conference Honorable Mention), Miranda McNaughton (Eastern Conference Honorable Mention), Brandi Bassett (Eastern Conference Honorable Mention)

PORT HURON, MI- Five St. Clair County Community College Softball players have been selected to the 2023 All-Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) teams. Freshman shortstop Sarah Fantin was named First Team All-Eastern Conference and was named to the Eastern Conference All-Freshman Team. Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Meriah Mason, sophomore catcher/second baseman Abigail Thibodeau, sophomore infielder Miranda McNaughton, and freshman utility Brandi Bassett were all named Eastern Conference Honorable Mention.

Sarah Fantin led the Skippers offensive attack batting .398 with a .417 OBP and .520 slugging percentage. She led the team in hits with 49, scored 29 runs, drove in 16 and talled 2 home runs on the season. 

Meriah Mason contributed to the team on both sides of the ball. As a pitcher Mason started 4 games, appearing in 14 more, and struck out 29 batters through 47.1 innings. At the plate Meriah led the team in batting average and on base percentage at .410 and .459 respectively. She also scored a team high 32 runs and stole 17 bases.

Abigail Thibodeau is a repeat selection, earning Eastern Conference Honorable Mention as a freshman as well. As a sophomore Thibodeau did it all. She had 38 hits, scored 19 runs, drove in 14 more, and stole 12 stolen bases. Abigail hit .333 with a .361 OBP and .368 slugging percentage.

Miranda McNaughton also makes the Honorable Mention list for a second year in a row. McNaughton added some power to the Skippers lineup slugging .551 with 13 extra base hits including 2 home runs. She also added in 13 runs, 15 RBIs and a .337 batting average for a stellar season.

Brandi Bassett is the Skippers second freshman honoree. Bassett made her mark this season in a variety of ways. As a hitter she totaled 36 hits in just as many games as well as 21 runs, 15 RBIs, and a slash line of .330./365/.367. As a picther Brandi made 12 appearances throwing 37 innings and totaling 15 strikeouts.
