Softball: SC4 Splits With the Raiders

Port Huron, MI – SC4 welcome the Oakland Community College Raiders to down for an afternoon double header.  

Game one started off fast with Oakland hanging 3 runs on the board in the top of the first inning. The Skippers answered with two of their own in the third inning but immediately gave up 3 more in the fourth. SC4 would add one in the sixth before surrendering 4 more runs in the seventh. The Skippers tried to mount a comeback but could muster just 1 run in the bottom of the seventh and went on to lose 10-4.

Natalie Douglas had a nice 2 for 4 game with a run and an RBI. Brandi Bassett collected an RBI while going a perfect 2 for 2 including a double. Sarah Fantin also hit a double and came around to score a run.

Kaylie Rickert got the start for the Skips and pitched 4 innings giving up 9 hits, 2 walks, and 4 earned runs. She also struck out 3 Oakland hitters. Carley Kalbfleisch came in and picthed the final 3 innings turning in a nice outing in relief. She game up just 1 earned run on 2 hits, 5 walks, and 4 strikeouts.

Game two was a completely different story. It started off slow with both teams adding a run in the first inning but heading into the fourth inning knotted up at a run a piece. They both scored again in the fourth, but that's when the SC4 bats got hot. They scored 4 in the fifth and 5 more in the 6th inning for insurance. They went on to win the game 11-4.

Alexis Perrin hit a home run and went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Sarah Fantin earned 2 hits in her 4 at bats along with 3 runs. Natalie Douglas kept it going notching 3 doubles a run and 5 RBIs, while Natalie Sauer scored 3 runs. Brandi Bassett and Isabella Pesina turned in 2 for 4 days with Bassett adding in 2 RBI's and Pesina an RBI and a double.

Starting in the circle was Brandi Bassett who picked up win number 3 on the season. She pitched all 7 innings and gave up just a single earned run. She held the Oakland offense 5 hits, 1 walk, while striking them out 3 times.

This split moves the Skippers to 12-13 on the season and 7-4 in the conference.

They will travel to Kearsley Park in Flint, MI for a double header against the Mott Community College Bears tomorrow (Apr. 7). First pitch for game one will be at 1:00 PM.
