Women's Basketball: Skippers Keep Rolling With A Sweep in the Skippers New Years Classic

Port Huron, MI – The Skippers Women's basketball team came into the Skippers New Years Classic looking to push their 11-game win streak to 13 in 2024. They did just that, picking up wins on Friday and Saturday.

The event included Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Macomb County Community College, Muskegon Community College, and St. Clair County Community College.

The Skippers opened the event on Friday (Jan. 5) taking down Region 12 foe Kalamazoo Valley Community College with a final score of 61-49. A 16-2 start was the difference in the game. Arlonna Twitty had a game setting a career high 28 points while also adding in 5 assists and 4 steals. Ava Grant tallied 9 points off the bench. Both Bailey Gormley and Karmyn Lowry both pulled down 7 rebounds to lead the Skippers.

On Saturday (Jan. 6) SC4 took down the Jayhawks of Muskegon Community College. They used a hot night from behind the 3 point like to cruise to a 61-43 victory. Bailey Gormley led all scorers with 14 points. Arlonna Twitty and Amanda Kitchen each had 10. Karmyn Lowry was all over the boards, bringing in 13 rebounds.

The Skippers will take the court again on Saturday January 13th, when they take on Mott Community College in Flint at 1:00 pm. Their next home game is Wednesday January 17th at 5:30 pm when Oakland Community College comes to town.
