Women's Basketball: Five Skippers Earn All-MCCAA Honors

PORT HURON, MI- St. Clair County Community College women's basketball team had five players earn spots on the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) All-Conference teams. Arlonna Twitty and Karmyn Lowry earned All-MCCAA Team honors. Twitty and Lowry also made the MCCAA Eastern Conference All-First team. Freshman Amanda Kitchen was named to the MCCAA Eastern Conference All-Second Team as well as the all-freshman team, while Madelyn Smith earned third team honors and was named to the all-defensive team. Bailey Gormley was named honorable mention.

Arlonna Twitty had a big sophomore year for the Skippers, starting in all 30 games the team played. She led the team scoring 13.9 points per game, while also dishing out 2.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds from the point guard position. Defensively she averaged 2.6 steals a game. Twitty shot nearly 50% from the field which was 3rd best in the eastern conference and just over 38% from three this season.

Karmyn Lowry made an impact all over the floor this season. She started in each of the 29 games she played in. The sophomore wing averaged 11.8 points per game, led the team in assists dishing out 2.9 and hauled in 6.8 boards per game. She also 2.6 steals to help out defensively.

Amanda Kitchen was one of the top freshmen in the league and a big-time contributor for the Skippers, starting in all but one game this year. Kitchen averaged 11.7 points per game shooting 57.2% from the field which was the best percentage in the MCCAA. She nearly averaged a double-double with just over 9 rebounds a game which was good for 5th in the state and 2nd in the conference, and added in almost 1 steal and 1.3 blocks each contest.

Madelyn Smith made her biggest mark on the defensive end for SC4. She averaged 8.6 points per game with 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists. On the defensive side of the floor, she had 111 takeaways (3.7 a game) which was good for second in the entire state this season, and 1st in the eastern conference.

Bailey Gormley was an offensive spark for the Skippers. Starting in 29 of 30 games, Gormley averaged 12.1 points per game. She also added in 5.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.6 steals a game. Her 57 makes from behind the 3-point line was the 3rd best mark in the eastern conference while her 32.2% clip was 4th best.
