Skippers at McHenry Opening Weekend Tourney

Rockford, IL -- The SC4 Skippers volleyball team traveled to Rockford, IL for the McHenry College Opening Weekend Tournament to kick of the 2021 season. They played 2 tough opponents today, including Sauk Valley Community College who was ranked #5 in the NJCAA Preseason Poll. Skippers battled, but dropped both matches. 

MATCH ONE: Carl Sandburg College 3, SC4 2 (22-25, 28-26, 7-25, 25-22, 10-15)

The Skippers opening day started with a match against Carl Sandburg College. Carl Sandburg and the Skippers went point for point in the first two sets, with the first going to Carl Sandburg and the second to the Skippers in extra points. Carl Sandburg started off hot in the third and raced to 25, leaving the Skippers behind. The Skippers battled back in set four winning 25-22, but ultimately fell in the fifth and final set 10-15. 

Miyana Dishroon (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) and Christina Bohm (St. Clair, MI/St. Clair) led the Skippers offense with 13 kills each, while Allie Foucher (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) tallied 9. The three combined for 35 of the team's 52 kills. Dishroon and Quinn Peterson (North Branch, Mich./North Branch) paced the Skippers defense with 28 and 22 digs respectively. Makiyah Terry (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) followed right behind with 17 digs. Joeleen Gaffney (Marysville, Mich./Marysville) joined the top stats, tallying 20 assists and one ace. Dishroon also had 14 assists. 

 

MATCH TWO: #5 Sauk Valley Community College 3, SC4 0 (16-25, 17-25, 21-25)

Sauk Valley came out strong, jumping out with a 7 point lead. Skippers began to rally back before Sauk ran away with the game. The second set began similar to the first, with the Sauk Valley Skyhawks 6 point lead. Late in the second set, Miyana Dishroon (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) went on a 4 point service run to help the Skippers gain momentum heading into the third set. Skippers started on a 3-0 run in set three, and the game continued to be point for point, uncludint ties at 16-16, 17-17, and 18-18. In the end, Sauk Valley went on a run to finish the game. 

Leading the Skippers was Christina Bohm (St. Clair, MI/St. Clair) with 8 kills, three solo blocks, one block assist and three digs. Quinn Peterson (North Branch, Mich./North Branch) notched 5 kills and seven digs. Miyana Dishroon (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) led the defense with 9 digs, followed by Joeleen Gaffney (Marysville, Mich./Marysville) with 8.  Makiyah Terry (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) and Olivia Jovanovich (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) added 7 digs each. Dishroon and Gaffney combined for 22 assists.

Skippers face off against NJCAA Preseason Poll's #1 Parkland College tomorrow morning, followed by a matchup with Oakton Community College.
