Women's Cross Country Places 2nd in Skippers Invitational

SC4 Women's Cross country in team huddle prior to their race at marysville city park

Despite times suffering due to rough course conditions that included much mud and water, the Lady Skippers continued to dominate the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA). The women placed second at their home meet, the Skipper's Cross Country Invitational, beating all teams in the conference and falling only to Rochester University.

Setting the pace for the Lady Skippers was Jessica Denver in typical fashion. Denver earned a top 10 finish running a 20:54.8, good enough for 7th overall. Grace Wessel finished as the team's second runner once again, placing 11th in a time of 21:10.4. Mary Kaminski (22:27.5), Kayla McIntyre (22:59.6) and Beth Baldwin (23:08.3) racked up the rest of the team's points, placing 24th, 30th and 31st respectively. Elizabeth Sliman battled through a nagging injury to cross the finish line in 23:28.8.

When asked about the tough course conditions and how she got through it, Kaminski responded, "Despite some of the course being flooded and having difficult inclines and hills, I overcame these challenging circumstances by keeping my mind on the fact that I'm not only racing for myself. I'm competing on a team and I made a promise to them to always give my best."

The women take a break from racing next week and will lace up again October 14th for the Charger Invitational, hosted by Marian University's Ancilla College in Plymouth, IN.
