The 2018-19 Skipper Men’s Basketball team was one of the best in SC4 history, finishing the season with a 27-8 record and SC4’s second District title. The 27 victories were the highest win total since the 1968-1969 Skippers. Through the first 20 games of the season the Skippers were 19-1. During the regular season they lost 6 games by a total of 19 points. The Skippers had a balanced scoring attack with four players averaging double figures, Omari Duncan (18.1 PPG), Jalen Miller (15.3 PPG), Derrick Johnson (14.8 PPG) Christopher Ballard (10 PPG).

The Skippers were crowned District Champions after they defeated Henry Ford 88-71. For their efforts during the tournament, Jalen Miller, Mark Hill and Omari Duncan made the All-Tournament Team, with Duncan being selected as the Tournament MVP. The team made SC4’s second ever appearance in the NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.

Four members of the team were recognized on the All-Conference teams. Freshman Omari Duncan was named to the All-Region team, 1st Team All-Eastern Conference and was a member of the All-Freshman team. Derrick Johnson made 2nd Team All-Eastern Conference. Freshman Jalen Miller was selected 3rd Team All-Eastern Conference. Mark Hill was named Honorable Mention All-Eastern Conference in addition to his Defensive All-Conference recognition.

Vos recalled a couple key memories of the team. “First the ability bounce back – twice we lost three games in a row and the conference championship by two points at Henry Ford in the last regular season game and every time we bounced back.” Vos continued, “Second, is how focused and well we played in the district tournament. The two tournament games were as good as this group could play and it was so awesome to see their efforts pay off after the disappointment from the end of the regular season.”

Team Members Include: Mark Hill, Jalen Miller, Tariq Hardy, Ashton Franklin, Derrick Johnson, Jalen Manyfield, D’Juan Tayler, Jayden Redeemer, Christopher Ballard, Dane Vos, Tim Baker, Omari Duncan, Ross Hinkley, head coach Dale Vos, assistant coaches Richard Field and Craig Archer.
