Sheyna Deans was a relentless player for the Skippers during her two years at SC4.
As a freshman Deans joined a team that had just made a run to the national tournament and she had an immediate impact, averaging 11.4 points per game along with 6 rebounds and 1.8 steals to earn MCCAA All-conference second team. She was also named to the MCCAA All-freshman team as her outstanding play helped lead the Skippers to a 32-3 record and a final four appearance.
Her sophomore year was even more impressive, bumping up her averages to 17.9 points on 53% shooting paired with 7.2 boards and an impressive 3 steals per game. Deans earned MCCAA All-conference first team and NJCAA All-region honors for her efforts. She once again helped lead the Skippers to a final four berth at the NJCAA National Championships where she was named to the NJCAA DII All-tournament team.
"Sheyna was our leader physically and emotionally. Every player looked up to her. She was the driving force behind our identity and one of the main reasons we rose to national dominance so quickly. She played with a chip on her shoulder and possessed a rare combination of talent and toughness. In my mind, Sheyna Deans epitomizes every quality that a true hall of famer should stand for,” SC4 women’s basketball coach Mike Groulx said of Sheyna.
Following her sophomore season, Sheyna earned a full ride scholarship to play basketball at the NCAA Division I level for Eastern Michigan University where her success didn’t stop. She averaged 9.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for the Eagles during her senior season.
