Kip Jones was a force on the basketball court for the Skippers during the 1992-1994 seasons. As a freshman, he averaged 12.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Jones took his game to a new level during his sophomore year averaging a double-double for the Skippers with an impressive 18.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Jones was named a first-team member of the All-Conference, All-Region, and All-State teams. He was also selected to the MCCAA Eastern Conference All-star team. Following his time at SC4, Jones continued his basketball career at NCAA Division II Fairmont State University in West Virginia.

“Kip was one of my first recruits at SC4, he was such a big part of building the groundwork of our program.  Over 30 years later, Skippers Basketball is still benefiting from the work Kip and his teammates put in back in the early 1990s,” said head coach Dale Vos. “Kip was a great player in our league – long and athletic, he had many opportunities after SC4 (including an NCAA D1 offer) and chose to transfer to Fairmont State University where he was a big part of their success.”

When looking back on his SC4 experience Kip stated, “I had the opportunity to play during a time where there was a lot of great talent in the Blue Water Area. Coach Vos did a phenomenal job of recruiting players from the local area as well as throughout the state and even the country.”

Jones enjoyed his time wearing a Skippers uniform, but some of his fondest memories were with his teammates off the court. “The road trips and just hanging out were always fun. Most nights after practice Coach Vos would keep the gym open and we would stay for 2 or 3 hours; shooting, working on our game, playing one-on-one, dunk contests, and 3-point contests.”

Jones was asked for his greatest athletic achievement, which he replied, “My greatest athletic achievements were the opportunity to play 4 years of college basketball and graduate with a bachelor’s degree.”

After graduating from Fairmont State in 1997, Jones taught for five years and coached at the varsity level for nine years. In 2003, he started his own construction business, Jones Investments and Residential Builders LLC. He and his wife Kallen, along with their daughter Isla reside in Marysville.
