Dennis Primeau was a special talent for the Skippers baseball team during the 1969 and 1970 seasons.

After graduating from Northville high school, Primeau was selected in the 36th round of the 1968 MLB draft by his hometown Detroit Tigers. However, he turned down their offer and enrolled at SC4 to play baseball for the legendary hall of fame coach Dick Groch.

The 5’ 9” shortstop from the western suburbs of Detroit posted an impressive freshman season for the Skippers. His performance on the diamond resulted in the San Francisco Giants selecting him in the 8th round of the 1970 January MLB draft. Once again, Primeau turned down the opportunity to take his talents to the Major Leagues and returned to college to finish his sophomore season with the Skippers. Primeau’s decision paid off as he led the Skippers to the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado for the first time in college history. The magical season ended with a fifth-place finish in the country!

Primeau impressed MLB scouts throughout the nation with his stellar defense and a .415 batting average. Following the 1970 season, he was drafted in the 3rd round by the Oakland Athletics. He finished his career playing two seasons in the minor leagues with the A’s, appearing in 138 games. The smooth handed infielder hit 10 home runs with 68 RBI’s and 10 stolen bases during his pro career.
